  41. IBM 3270 EMULATION FOR LAN WORKPLACE/LAN WORKGROUP

  43. TN3270 for MS Windows is a LAN WorkPlace/LAN WorkGroup application that
  44. lets you use Telnet connections to log into IBM mainframe host computers
  45. connected to your networked PC workstation via a TCP/IP internetwork.

  47. The TN3270 for MS Windows program allows you to run IBM host applications
  48. by emulating standard IBM 3270 terminal capabilities.  TN3270 for MS
  49. Windows emulates IBM 3278 Models 2, 3, 4, and 5.  It allows you to transfer
  50. files to and from IBM host computers.
  51.  
  52. An extensive online help system is included with TN3270 for MS Windows that
  53. provides explanations and step-by-step procedures for all application
  54. features.
  55.  
  56. Because this application will become a standard component of the LAN
  57. WorkPlace and LAN WorkGroup products in future releases, it is being
  58. provided free of charge to all existing LAN WorkPlace/LAN WorkGroup
  59. customers.  If you have licensed LAN WorkPlace or LAN WorkGroup v4.1 or
  60. later, your license includes the right to use this new software.  You can
  61. instantly extend your connectivity to include your IBM CICS/VS, MVS/TSO,
  62. and VM/CMS hosts.

  64. TN3270 for MS Windows is for MS Windows users only.  DOS users can purchase
  65. the optional TN3270 for LAN WorkPlace product from Novell.
  66.  
  67. In addition to this NetWire release, TN3270 for MS Windows is available on
  68. 3-1/2 inch diskettes.  A manual, the TN3270 for MS Windows User's Guide, is
  69. included with the diskettes.  The price for this package is $30, which
  70. includes the right to make copies of the diskettes for all LAN WorkPlace
  71. and LAN WorkGroup users throughout your organization.

  84. run Novell TN3270 for MS Windows, gives installation instructions, provides
  85. documentation and software updates since publication of the User's Guide,
  86. and lists the files in the product.

  89. PREREQUISITES
  90. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  91. To install and run TN3270 for MS Windows, your workstation must meet the
  92. hardware prerequisites described in your LAN WorkPlace or LAN WorkGroup
  93. documentation.  In summary, they are as follows:
  94.  
  95. .You need an IBM PC/AT or PS/2, or an 80286-based, 80386-based, or
  96. 80486-based compatible.
  97.  
  98. .You need an Ethernet, token ring, or ARCnet network board, or a SLIP or
  99. PPP dial-in connection.
  100.  
  101. .You need 2 to 4 MB of memory.
  102.  
  103. .You need about 880 KB of available disk space for TN3270 for MS Windows
  104. files and working storage (in addition to the space required by LAN
  105. WorkPlace or WorkGroup).
  106.  
  107. The following software must be installed and running on the workstation
  108. before you can install TN3270 for MS Windows:
  109.  
  110. .You need IBM PC-DOS v3.3 (or later), Microsoft MS-DOS v3.3 (or later), or
  111. DR DOS v6.0 (or later).
  112.  
  113.  If you plan to run MS Windows v3.1 with DR DOS, make sure your COMMAND.COM
  114. file is dated 4/92 or later.  Contact your Novell-authorized reseller to
  115. update an earlier COMMAND.COM.
  116.  
  117. .You need Microsoft Windows v3.0 or v3.1 (or later).
  118.  
  119. .You need LAN WorkPlace or LAN WorkGroup v4.1 (or later), installed to
  120. include the MS Windows applications and support.
  121.  
  122. The host computers you connect to using TN3270 for MS Windows must meet the
  123. following requirements:
  124.  
  125. .Each host must run TCP/IP and have an active Telnet server.
  126.  
  127. .Telnet must be integrated with the host operating system, such that the
  128. operating system can be accessed via Telnet.
  129.  
  130. .The host must support a 3270 terminal subsystem.
  131.  
  132. .If you plan to use the file transfer capability, your host computer must
  133. also have a file transfer program (see the User's Guide for details).

  137. INSTALLING THIS PRODUCT FROM NETWIRE
  138. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  139. Binary file W3270.EXE contains the LAN WorkPlace TN3270 for MS Windows v4.1
  140. installation utility and files in archive form.  See the FILE LIST later in
  141. this document for details.
  142.  
  143. Follow these steps to extract the files archived in W3270.EXE and install
  144. this product.
  145.  
  146. 1. Copy the file W3270.EXE to a temporary directory on your hard disk or
  147. file server.
  148.  
  149. W3270.EXE is an archive file that contains the compressed TN3270 for MS
  150. Windows files.  Because the W3270.EXE file is about 650 KB in size, you can
  151. store the file on a diskette but you cannot expand the files it contains on
  152. a diskette.
  153.  
  154. 2. Extract the archived files by typing:
  155.  
  156.    W3270 <Enter>
  157.  
  158.    <Enter> means press the Enter key.
  159.  
  160. 3. Run LAN WorkPlace or LAN WorkGroup.
  161.  
  162. These programs normally run when you start up your PC workstation.  Usually
  163. a batch file, LANWP.BAT or LANWG.BAT, is run to load TCP/IP and supporting
  164. modules.  Refer to your LAN WorkPlace or LAN WorkGroup documentation if you
  165. need assistance.
  166.  
  167. 4. Run MS Windows.
  168.  
  169. MS Windows may run automatically when you restart your workstation, or you
  170. may need to enter a command to run MS Windows.  Refer to the Microsoft
  171. Windows User's Guide for the specific command for your configuration.
  172.  
  173. 5. Select Run from the Program Manager's File menu.
  174.  
  175. 6. Type the following in the Command Line text box.
  176.  
  177.    <drive:path>setup.exe
  178.  
  179. where <drive:path> is the location of the extracted W3270 files.  For
  180. example, if you copied W3270.EXE to C:\WINDOWS\TEMP, you would type:
  181.  
  182.    C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\SETUP.EXE
  183.  
  184. 7. Click OK.
  185.  
  186. 8. Follow the onscreen prompts.
  187.  
  188. You can exit from the installation program if necessary by pressing the
  189. <Esc> key.
  190.  
  191. When the message "Thank you for choosing Novell LAN WorkPlace TN3270 for MS
  192. Windows" is displayed, the product is installed and ready for you to use.
  193.  
  194. After successful installation, the TN3270 icon should be present in your
  195. LAN WorkPlace program group.  To start TN3270 for MS Windows, double-click
  196. the icon.
  197.  
  198. LAN WorkGroup administrators can make TN3270 for MS Windows available to
  199. all workgroup members by logging into the workgroup server as SUPERVISOR
  200. before proceeding with the above installation procedure.  Workgroup members
  201. can then configure the TN3270 icon on their workstation.  For details of
  202. this procedure, refer to the TN3270 for MS Windows User's Guide.

  206. DOCUMENTATION UPDATES
  207. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  208. The following information became available after publication of the LAN
  209. WorkPlace TN3270 for MS Windows User's Guide:
  210.  
  211. Terminal Session Window During File Transfers
  212.  
  213. When the Send or Receive command is selected from the Transfer menu, the
  214. terminal session window remains displayed and is not iconized.  Status
  215. information is returned in the send or receive windows, not the terminal
  216. session window.
  217.  
  218. MS Windows Accelerator Keys
  219.  
  220. You can enable the MS Windows editing accelerator keys for the editing
  221. functions available in the terminal session window, Config Keyboard Map
  222. window, and Config Keypad Map window.  To enable the accelerator keys,
  223. check the Accelerator option on the Open Session window.
  224.  
  225. TN3270 for MS Windows implements the following MS Windows editing
  226. accelerator keys.
  227.  
  228. Terminal session window:
  229.  
  230.       <Ctrl - C>    Copy
  231.  
  232.       <Ctrl - V>    Paste
  233.  
  234.    Config Keyboard Map and Config Keypad Map windows:
  235.  
  236.       <Ctrl - C>    Copy

  240.       <Ctrl - X>    Cut

  246. Any 3270 functions that were mapped to these accelerator key combinations
  247. are not available in the terminal session window when the accelerator keys
  248. are enabled.  You can invoke these functions from the Active Function List
  249. or remap the keyboard if you need to make these functions available on
  250. other keys.
  251.  
  252. Shift Key Functions
  253.  
  254. On the Active Keyboard Map window, the keyboard shift keys, including <Caps
  255. Lock>, <Num Lock>, <Wnd>, and <APL>, are disabled and are shown dimmed.  To
  256. access these key functions, press the corresponding keys on the keyboard.

  260. SOFTWARE UPDATES
  261. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  262. The following software updates have been made since the publication of the
  263. LAN WorkPlace TN3270 for MS Windows User's Guide.
  264.  
  265. Block Mode Copy
  266.  
  267. When you check Select Block Mode in the terminal session window (this is
  268. the default mode) and try to select a block that includes all of the screen
  269. columns, sometimes only the first column is copied.
  270.  
  271. If you want to copy all of the screen columns, you can check Select Line
  272. Mode on the Edit menu and select the text line by line.
  273.  
  274. Accessing Shift States
  275.  
  276. On certain keyboards, to access the functions provided by the Alt-Shifted
  277. state you must hold down both <Alt> and <Shift> while pressing the key.  If
  278. the Alt-Shifted functions are not accessible on your keyboard when you
  279. press <Alt> alone, try holding down both <Alt> and <Shift>.
  280.  
  281. Saving New Keypad Map Files
  282.  
  283. If you use the New command on the File menu of the Config Keypad Map window
  284. to create a new keypad mapping file, you may receive an error message when
  285. you try to use the Save command to save the new keypad map.  If this
  286. happens, use the Save As command instead.
  287.  
  288. Telnet Server Incompatibility
  289.  
  290. A problem is known to exist when accessing IBM hosts through TPX.  TPX is a
  291. multisession terminal emulation manager for MVS.  The problem is caused by
  292. the sequence in which TPX expects to perform Telnet option negotiation. 
  293. This problem does not affect Novell's TN3270 for DOS product.
  294.  
  295. If you find that you cannot access a host computer that is running TPX, use
  296. DOS TN3270 instead of TN3270 for MS Windows.  You can obtain the DOS TN3270
  297. for LAN WorkPlace product from Novell (refer to the phone numbers listed
  298. earlier in this file).
